How fast can a turtle walk?

This is what the girls and I went to find out on Saturday morning at the NEW Zoo. The tortoises were having their annual walk from their winter home to their summer home. It took some watermelon to coax them out of their winter home. The female tortoise (Tootie) came first and she is pretty fast but also considerably smaller than the male. The male tortoise (Al) took his sweet time coming out and walking. He is big. They said he weighed approximately 464 pounds. After the turtle walked by they invited spectators to go ahead and touch the back of their shell. Emma touched both. It was a beautiful morning to enjoy the tortoise walk and the zoo.
